012 – Blue Duncan Coral
Scientific Name: Duncanopsammia axifuga
Type: LPS Coral
Overview
This WYSIWYG frag of Blue Duncan features multiple heads with long, flowing tentacles and a subtle bluish-green center under actinic lighting. Duncans are a highly sought-after LPS coral known for their elegant extension, fast growth, and hardy nature. The blue variety stands out for its cooler tone compared to the more common green morphs, offering a soft shimmer and pulsing movement in any section of the reef.
Duncan corals are especially ideal for new and seasoned reefers alike—they’re forgiving, visually active, and easy to frag or propagate.
Care Requirements
Lighting:
Moderate (PAR 100–150). Adaptable to a range of lighting conditions, but avoid sudden shifts in intensity.
Water Flow:
Low to moderate. Tentacles should sway gently—too much flow may cause retraction or stress.
Placement:
Bottom to mid-level rockwork or sandbed. Ensure the coral has open space to expand polyps without being crowded.
Feeding:
Photosynthetic but responds well to target feeding with mysis, brine, or reef roids. Feeding promotes faster growth and head splitting.
Aggression Level:
Low. Duncans do not release sweepers and can be safely placed near peaceful LPS and soft corals.
Growth Rate:
Fast. Grows by adding new heads at the base. Regular feeding and stable parameters accelerate growth.
Difficulty:
Easy. Excellent coral for beginners, frag packs, or centerpiece placement in mixed reefs.
Additional Notes
The Blue Duncan's soft coloration and rhythmic tentacle movement make it a perfect contrast to high-saturation LPS and SPS frags. It thrives in systems with stable alkalinity and moderate nutrient levels. If given space and consistent care, this coral will multiply quickly into a branching colony that holds value for display or resale.
This WYSIWYG frag features multiple well-formed polyps already showing full extension and color stability.
