005 – Green Bali Slimer Acropora
Scientific Name: Acropora yongei
Type: SPS Coral (Branching)
Overview
This WYSIWYG Green Bali Slimer is a fast-growing Acropora known for its thick, upright branches and vibrant neon green coloration. The name “Slimer” comes from its tendency to produce copious amounts of protective mucus when handled, but in the tank, it's all about dense structure, brilliant color, and upward momentum.
The Bali Slimer is one of the most forgiving Acropora species, making it a great starting point for hobbyists entering the SPS world. Under strong lighting and proper flow, this coral forms beautiful finger-like growths with excellent polyp extension and a healthy green sheen from base to tip.
Care Requirements
Lighting:
High (PAR 300–450). This Acropora thrives in bright reef environments. Color and growth rate are best under strong blue and full-spectrum lighting.
Water Flow:
Strong and turbulent. This coral demands chaotic, randomized flow to prevent buildup on branches and support tissue health.
Placement:
Upper third of the aquascape. Mount firmly to a rock structure with enough space to allow for upward and outward growth.
Feeding:
Photosynthetic, but may benefit from light feeding with reef roids, amino acids, or broadcast coral blends. Supplemental feeding can enhance growth in ULN (ultra-low nutrient) systems.
Aggression Level:
Low. Does not sting other corals, but requires space to prevent overgrowth conflicts and shading.
Growth Rate:
Fast. One of the fastest-growing Acropora species when stable conditions are maintained.
Difficulty:
Moderate. Easier than many Acropora, but still requires SPS-level stability in alkalinity, calcium, and nutrient levels.
Additional Notes
The Green Bali Slimer is a standout for both beginner and experienced SPS keepers. It brings classic reef structure, bright color, and fast results to grow-out systems and display tanks alike. Expect visible growth within weeks under proper lighting and flow.
This frag shows excellent tip formation and polyp extension, with active growth from the base outward.
