014 β Toadstool Leather Coral
Scientific Name: Sarcophyton spp.
Type: Soft Coral
Overview
This WYSIWYG frag features a fully extended Toadstool Leather Coral with a dome-shaped cap and long, flowing polyps extending in all directions. The uniform polyp extension and healthy stalk base indicate this coral is well-settled and thriving β ready for quick growth in your reef.
Toadstool leathers are known for their durability, motion, and peaceful nature. They make a great centerpiece in soft coral zones and mix well with LPS and beginner SPS corals when given space and flow.
Care Requirements
Lighting:
Moderate to high (PAR 100β250). Thrives under full-spectrum LED with strong blues.
Water Flow:
Moderate to strong. Indirect flow encourages full polyp extension and keeps the cap surface clean.
Placement:
Bottom to mid-level rock. Allow 2β3 inches of space around the coral for full expansion and to prevent shading.
Feeding:
Photosynthetic. Does not require feeding but may respond to occasional amino acids in low-nutrient systems.
Aggression Level:
Low. Does not sting but can release allelopathic compounds. Carbon is recommended in mixed systems.
Growth Rate:
Moderate to fast. Grows steadily once attached and acclimated.
Difficulty:
Easy. Ideal for beginners and experienced hobbyists alike.
Additional Notes
This specimen is already in full extension, meaning it has moved past the shedding/acclimation stage. Toadstools may periodically retract and slough a waxy layer β this is normal and part of their natural growth process. Ensure good water movement to assist.
This frag will continue to grow into a tall, waving crown with beautiful flow response β a perfect coral for softie displays or beginner builds.
